AI in the working life – what will happen to Finland’s competitiveness?

The basic elements of artificial intelligence are decades old. New in the field are, among other things, easily accessible services that utilize generative artificial intelligence and large language models, which “understand” natural language and produce analysis, language, visualizations or sound in seconds at a level that, at best, corresponds to the work of a human expert in days.

The changed information technology possibilities require a new analysis of what kind of private and public decisions need to be made in order to maximize benefits and minimize possible harmful effects.

The project deals with three main research questions:

  • What part of the work done in Finland is changing driven by generative AI?
  • Will artificial intelligence publications in spring 2023 show in real time, e.g., the demand for programming work?
  • What are the longer-term effects of AI on Finnish work and companies?
