The footprint of health technology in Finland (Etlatieto Oy)

The project examines the overall importance of research-based healthcare industry companies for the Finnish economy. The current state of the industry is estimated and will be linked to the decade’s evolution. In addition, future scenarios with policy implications will be created.

The study drills deep in pharmaceutical industry and with a new methodology value creation connection domestically and internationally are proved. In addition, the project looks for factors that contribute to success and estimates conditions for future genes and patient information.

The research consists of following sections:

  • Research-driven healthcare companies as an industry
  • Finland based pharmaceutical companies’ value creation impacts
  • Future scenarios
  • Strategical thinking and political implications

As a result, there will be a report which describes research driven health sector companies’ current situation as a whole and by sub-sector as well as the evolution since the beginning of the decade. The dimensions allowed by the statistics also describe the economic importance of the sector and its competitiveness.

A specific in-depth analysis which will open industry’s national and international value chain will be made. The report also looks at what structural changes are happening within the industry now and in the future. The report summarizes a scenario-building workshop that looks more broadly into the future of the industry.
