ETLA forecast: 2019 at the latest public finances in balance

Finland’s economic growth continues to be robust. GDP will increase by 2.8 per cent in 2018, bypassing the level of output prevailing in 2008. GDP will grow by 2.4 per cent in 2019 and by 1.9 per cent in 2020. GDP growth will be faster in the next few years than growth of potential output, which is estimated to be about 1.5 per cent.

Euro safe assets and debt restructuring in focus as elements of euro reform

Safe assets created by pooling sovereign debts of different risk characteristics are one of the ideas put forward in the discussion about reforming the euro zone. Another proposition is making debt restructuring credible. These ideas, as well many other proposals, were discussed in “Seminar on Safe Assets, Sovereign Debt and Financial Stability” on Monday 22.1.2018.

Etla’s Juri Mattila joins European Commission’s expert workgroup

Etla researcher Juri Mattila has been invited to the European Commission’s expert working group examining the disruptive effects of blockchain technology on industries. The project’s second workshop will be held in Brussels in mid-November.
