Economic instruments and market-oriented solutions in the circular economy

Sustainable development and a carbon-neutral society are built on new products and solutions that derive from the circular economy. In addition, solutions in the circular economy are also expected to create new types of business opportunities for Finnish companies. However, the emergence of a market based on the circular economy requires predictable and long-term instruments that enable companies to invest in circular economy ventures and product development. There is still little research on the subject.

Therefore, the main goal of this research project is to study the economic instruments and market-oriented solutions of the circular economy. The research relies on an economic approach supported by an analysis of statistical data. The project investigates the potential of the circular economy by analysing alternative instruments of economic management.

The result of this research support national and EU-level decision-making about the ongoing transition to a circular economy. The project’s research data also supports the goal of industry to take a significant role in the transition around the world by developing and offering technology that advances the circular economy globally.
