Improving crisis resilience

The aim of this research project is to analyse the resilience of various companies and industries, i.e., their crisis resistance, the factors influencing it, and their ability to recover from a crisis. In addition, the project will look at particular ways in which companies have recently tried to improve the reliability of their value chains.

The results of the project will be strongly relevant to the future of companies. Although the war in Ukraine and the COVID-19 crisis will eventually come to an end, Finland and Finnish companies will face other shocks and crises in the future, the timing and causes of which cannot be predicted in advance. Because of this, it is important to know in advance the factors involved and ways in which crisis resilience could be improved.

The research project aims to answer the following research questions:

  • What is the crisis resistance of Finnish companies in different sectors and in different types of companies?
  • Which factors improve and weaken crisis resistance?
  • In what ways have companies tried to improve the reliability of their value chains?
