Crisis resilience of companies and improving it

The aim of this research project is to analyse the resilience of various companies and industries, i.e., their crisis resistance, the factors influencing it, and the ability to recover from a crisis. In addition, the project will look at the ways in which companies have recently tried to improve the reliability of their value chains in particular.

The results obtained in the project will have a special significance specifically from the point of view of the future of companies. Although the war in Ukraine and the COVID-19 crisis will surely end in time, Finland and Finnish companies will also face shocks and crises in the future, the timing and causes of which cannot be predicted in advance. Because of this, it is important to know in advance the factors and ways in which crisis resilience could be improved.

The research project aims to answer the following research questions:

  • What is the crisis resistance of Finnish companies in different sectors and in different types of companies?
  • Which factors improve and weaken companies’ crisis resistance?
  • What means have companies tried to improve the reliability of their value chains?
