How to boost the competitiveness of Finland’s export industry?

This research project analyzes the product-specific global demand of the export industry and the cost structure of Finnish production.

The project produces information about the export industry’s demand in the world market. Demand modeling provides information on the geographical focus of foreign trade and the effect of distance on demand by different export sectors. The research results help the export industry to form an even more accurate overall picture of foreign trade goods flows and market potential.

The key result can be considered the price elasticities of market and product group level demand calculated in the project, which can be used in industrial pricing and demand forecasting. The modeling results can also be used to assess how different cost shocks affect producer prices and competitiveness in the export industry in Finland.

The project’s research on the effects of changes in business subsidies and taxation on exports and employment provides companies with information to support export strategies and investment decisions. This helps to develop effective business strategies that support growth and employment.

On the other hand, the project’s research increases understanding of the impact of various policy measures on the financial success and productivity of Finnish export manufacturing companies, and provides information on measures that can improve the competitiveness of export manufacturing companies.
