The core macroeconomic team consists of high level experts. This team is responsible for analysis of recent performance of Nordic model and the final joint analysis, but it also participates in producing some of the thematic articles. 

The coordinator of the project is Managing Director of ETLA, Vesa Vihriälä, who has previously been e.g. Adviser to Olli Rehn, Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, State Under-Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office and Secretary General of the Economic Council and Head of office in Bank of Finland.

Torben Andersen is professor in economics at University of Aarhus. He is also affiliated to CEPR (London), CESifo (Munich) and IZA (Bonn). He has also been involved in policy advising, among other in his former capacity as chairman of the Danish Council of Economic Advisors, and vice-chair of the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council.

Lars Calmfors is professor of international economics at Institute for International Economic Studies at Stockholm University. He has chaired the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council, the Economic Council of Sweden, the Swedish Government Commission on the EMU and the European Economic Advisory Group at CESifo. He has also been a Member of the Committee for the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Sixten Korkman is professor of practice in economics at Aalto University School of Economics. He has worked as Managing Director of ETLA, the Economic Research Institute of the Finnish Economy, and EVA, the Finnish Business and Policy Forum. He has been also Director General at the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union, Directorate for Economic and Social Affairs and Director General of the economic department of the Finnish Ministry of Finance.


The authors of the thematic articles are as follows:

Karsten Albæk, Senior Researcher since 2010 and Programme Leader since 2012 at The Danish National Centre for Social Research (SFI) in Copenhagen. He will participate in writing the articles on early school leavers and young pensioners.

Rita Asplund, Research Director at ETLA. She has extensive experience on labour market and education studies and is currently leading the project “Youth Unemployment in the Nordic Countries”. She will carry the main responsibility in producing the thematic articles on early school leavers and young pensioners.

Erling Barth, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Social Research (ISF) in Oslo (Research Director, 2005-2010), Professor II at the Department of Economics, University of Oslo, since 2005, Wertheim Fellow of the Labor and Worklife Program at Harvard Law School since 2008, Research Economist at the National Bureau of Economic Research since 2009, Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labour (IZA) n Bonn since 2004, and Sworn Status Researcher of US Census since 2009. He will participate in writing the articles on early school leavers and young pensioners.

Bernt Bratsberg, Senior Research Fellow at Ragnar Frisch Centre for Economic Research and Adjunct Professor at the ESOP Centre of Excellence, University of Oslo. Prior to joining the Frisch Centre in 2002, he was Professor of Economics at Kansas State University, USA. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University of California, Santa Barbara (1991). His research interests include labor economics and applied econometrics. He will participate in producing the thematic article on labour migrants and social security.

Antti Kauhanen
, Chief research scientist at ETLA. His research interests include personnel economic and wage formation. He will participate in producing the thematic article on innovations and competitiveness.

Jukka Lassila, Research Advisor at ETLA. He has coordinated several international research projects concerning population ageing and its economic consequences. He participates in producing the thematic articles on pensions and health care.

Lena Lindahl, Assistant Professor at Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI), Stockholm University. Her research interests include labor economics, income inequality and economics of education. She participates in the analysis on early school leavers and young pensioners.

Mika Maliranta, Research Director at ETLA and professor at University of Jyväskylä. His main research interests include productivity, job and worker flows, economic growth and wages. He will carry the main responsibility in producing the thematic article on innovations and competitiveness.

Niku Määttänen, Research Supervisor at ETLA. His research interests include public economics and macroeconomics. Niku Määttänen participates in participates in producing the thematic articles on pensions and on innovations and competitiveness.

Oddbjørn Raaum, Director of Ragnar Frisch Centre for Economic Research. His research interests are e.g. wage formation, returns to schooling, unemployment and active labour market programmes. He will participate in producing the thematic article on labour migrants and social security.

Knut Røed, Senior Research Fellow at Ragnar Frisch Centre for Economic Research and Adjunct Professor at the ESOP Centre of Excellence, University of Oslo. His research interests include labor supply, unemployment, absenteeism, disability, retirement behavior, and public policies aimed at promoting labor market participation. He will participate in producing the thematic article on labour migrants and social security.

Allan Sørensen, Associate professor, Department of Economics and Business, Business and Social Sciences, Aarhus University. His interests include international economics, international trade and trade policy, economics and institutions of globalization, macroeconomics, public finance and labour economics. He analyses implications of globalization on taxation. 

Tarmo Valkonen, Research Director at ETLA. His research interests include public economics, especially model-based policy analysis of taxation, pensions and sustainability of public finances. He will assist Vesa Vihriälä in coordinating the project and participates in producing the thematic articles on pensions and health care.
