Public finance and economic policy research focuses on structural issues pertaining to taxation and the financing of social security. The long-term economic policy problems are investigated in particular from the perspective of population aging with emphasis on uncertainty and risk related to economic and demographic development. Policy analysis is focused on the sustainability of public finances and the design and evaluation of related operational strategies.

Competition, innovation and productivity

The program focuses on many aspects of the competition. The research topics include the functioning of markets, regulation and the impact of public sector activities on market performance. The program involves a lot of empirical analysis of business and personal data sets based on competitive business strategies, market entry barriers (e.g. patents), as well as the effects of government activities (e.g. business subsidies) on competition and business activities.
