Tämä tutkielma tarkastelee työmarkkinasignaloinnin teoriaa käsittelevää kirjallisuutta ja koulutuksen mahdollista roolia työmarkkinasignaalina. Tarkastelen koulutuksen mahdollisen signaaliominaisuuden merkitystä yksilön ja yhteisön tulonmuodostuksessa nojautuen kirjallisuudessa esitettyihin teorioihin. Esitän myös katsauksen tyypillisimpiin signalointihypoteesia empiirisesti testaaviin menetelmiin. Tutkielman empiirisessä osiossa pyrin testaamaan signaloinnin hypoteesia kahdella kirjallisuudessa esiintyvällä menetelmällä. Ensimmäinen näistä on nk. luonnonkoemenetelmä, jossa hyödynnän Suomen 1970-luvun peruskoulu-uudistusta ns.
